To some people dating is a fun word, something that conjures up excitement, promise, and memories of mystery men and experiences. To others, ‘dating’ is a frightening word, a word that invokes fear of the unknown, of disappointment, of never-ending a-holes. And to some- like myself- it is simply just a word, a word like so many others, that I just have no time, or interest for.. until now.
At the ripe old age of twenty-five, it’s shocking to say that although I’m somewhat of a social butterfly, or party animal– some of the nicer expressions that have been used to describe my lifestyle- I have in fact only been on one ‘actual’ date. I’ve had zero ‘real’ boyfriends, my longest ‘relationship’ was four months, and the one and only time a guy has said he loved me, I pretended to be asleep. I guess you’d call me a commitment-phobe.
Having said that, dating is a right of passage, it’s a vital part of life, and I’m sure there are a lot of good things that can come from dating: new experiences and interests, new friends, occasions to change the way you think or inspire growth, and of course perhaps a husband at the end of it all. And going off a serial dater friend of mines experiences, I imagine there will be a few hilarious and/or horrifying stories to tell. So for these reasons, I’ve decided it’s time for me to take a bite out of that foreign fruit they call dating. All in all, it should be a riot- it will either be a free meal when I’m skint, a hilarious story to tell, or the start of something. And If nothing else, it will be a new adventure.
So if you are too scared, too disinterested, or too whatever to enter, or re-enter the ever-changing waters of the dating pool, let me do it for you. Follow me as I swim through a sea of men, and experience life inside the water without having to get your feet wet. Hopefully, by the end of this experiment you too will have the confidence to dive into the pool, or if you’d still prefer to stay dry on land- you’ll have had a laugh listening to me splash around in there.
Catch ya later,
Ren.
